Meet Our Founder

Hi, I'm Baqir Hussain, FCCA, Founder and Director of Finex Chartered Certified Accountants.

I've spent more than 18 years working in accounting and tax, with experience spanning Big Four firms, mid-tier practices and work alongside New Zealand's audit regulator. Today, I'm a New Zealand Registered Tax Agent specialising in business and property tax.

But the reason I built Finex goes beyond preparing accounts and filing tax returns.

Back in 2018, I saw just how many New Zealand business owners and property investors didn't fully understand the tax rules that applied to them. In many cases, that lack of clarity was costing them thousands of dollars in tax they may not have needed to pay.

I wanted to change that.

Today, I help property investors and business owners understand their tax position, legitimately minimise tax, improve cashflow and avoid costly problems with IRD.

And I believe that starts with making tax easier to understand.

You shouldn't need to be a tax expert to know what's happening with your own money. You should have an accountant who explains things clearly, understands your circumstances and is available to answer questions before an important decision turns into an expensive mistake.

Fate is a Bookkeeper at Finex, supporting clients with their day-to-day accounting needs, including bank reconciliations, payroll, Xero, and assisting with GST and financial report preparation.

Having previously worked in executive support at Finex, Fate brings a strong understanding of the firm’s clients and day-to-day operations to her bookkeeping role. With a background in customer service, she is approachable, reliable, and client-focused, and enjoys the satisfaction of getting the numbers to balance and seeing work through to completion.

Executive Assistant & Operations Coordinator

Rainelle — or Rain, as she is known to the team — joined Finex bringing nearly 25 years of experience in financial services with her. Over the course of her career, she progressed from front-line client service roles to Branch Operations Manager, leading a team of four supervisors and over 25 staff across multiple business units.

Rain holds professional designations from LOMA (Life Office Management Association): Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), Associate, Life Management Institute (ALMI), and Associate, Customer Service (ACS) — along with certifications in insurance products, Civil Service Professional Eligibility, and a B.S. in Commerce.

That depth of experience now shapes how she supports Director Baqir at Finex, from client communications and proposal preparation to scheduling and day-to-day operations.

Syed Naqvi

Chartered Accountant

Syed holds a BSc in Accounting & Finance from City University of London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Accounting from AUT and is an Associate member of CPA Australia.

With over 10 years of experience, Syed has worked with some of New Zealand's leading companies, including Fonterra, Tamaki Health, Godfrey Hirst, and Hyundai.

His areas of expertise include day-to-day business advisory, business due diligence, financial modelling, financial planning, tax planning, INZ accreditation, and IRD negotiations.
