Property Investors We Help

No two property investors have exactly the same circumstances.

Your accounting needs can look very different depending on why you own property, how you generate your returns and what you're planning to do next.

  • Perhaps you and your partner bought an investment property to create another source of income, build long-term wealth or give yourselves greater financial security for the future.

We help property investors like you understand the financial side of your investment, stay on top of your tax obligations and get clear answers when important property decisions arise.

  • Whether you own a single rental or a growing portfolio, being a landlord creates an ongoing financial picture that needs to be properly understood.

We help landlords and rental property owners keep their property finances organised, understand your tax position and make better-informed decisions as their circumstances change.

  • Buying, improving and selling property brings a different set of financial considerations from simply owning a long-term rental.

We help property traders and flippers understand the accounting and tax considerations relevant to their activities, keep their financial information organised and get professional advice around important decisions.

Baqir and the team have completely changed how we look at our rental portfolio. They explained the tax side in plain English, restructured our ownership before we bought again, and saved us far more than their fee. We finally feel like we know what's going on!

Switching accountants felt daunting but Finex handled the whole transfer. Everything was done for us and our first year end was the smoothest we've had. Fixed fees mean no nasty surprises either.

Proactive is the right word. They contact us before deadlines, flag tax we should plan for and are always happy to take a call when a decision comes up. Our previous accountant only appeared once a year.

We run a small building company and the cashflow projections have been a game changer. We now know what's coming three months out and can price jobs with confidence.

Genuine property specialists. They knew the bright-line and interest rules inside out and made sure we structured our second purchase properly from day one.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? We're happy to answer it before you commit to anything.

Do I need a specialist property accountant?

If you own or plan to own investment property, yes. Property tax rules in New Zealand change frequently and interact in ways that general accountants do not always follow closely. A specialist will usually identify both deductions and risks that would otherwise be missed.

Should I hold my rental property in a trust or a company?

It depends on your income, your plans for the portfolio, asset protection needs and who else is involved. There is no single right answer, which is why we look at your circumstances before recommending a structure rather than applying a default.

How does the bright-line test affect me?

The bright-line test can make the sale of a residential property taxable if it is sold within the relevant period. The period and exclusions have changed several times, so the date you acquired the property matters. We can confirm your position before you list.

Can I claim interest on my rental property?

Interest deductibility rules have changed repeatedly in recent years and depend on the type of property and when it was acquired. We calculate the deductible portion for each property rather than applying a blanket assumption.

What records do you need from me each year?

Typically rental statements, mortgage and interest details, rates and insurance, repairs and maintenance invoices, and any purchase or sale documents. We provide a simple checklist so nothing is missed.

What do your services cost?

We quote transparent fixed fees based on the number of properties and entities involved, agreed before we start. There are no surprise invoices, and ongoing questions during the year are included.
